Some days ago, Ubiquity published (in Italy) the Mobile Finance Report FY 2016.
The analysis in this report are based on the monitoring of volumes generated by services notification on the occasion of transactions with payment cards, or via online and mobile, by users. Besides this, there is the monitoring of messages linked to other services such as Caring & Service, Trading and Marketing. With a total of 22 banks among the most important in Italy, who rely on Ubiquity for managing messaging services, the company is able to offer a vantage point on the subject.
In 2016 the total number of transactions marks another year of growth: notifications related to bank accounts and payment cards that have traveled on the Italian Mobile networks reached a record volume of 732.4 million, with a growth rate of 12% compared to 2015 which recorded 653.6 million.
Considering the notification types, divided by purpose or function, in 2016 Ubiquity recorded in particular an increase of 50% of the alert related to the bank accounts. These share in 2016 reached 130.8 million (with a weight of 16% of an annual total of 823.4 million), and constituted 86.9 million (12% in 2015 to an annual total of 725.5 million).
This trend is due in particular to the “One Time Password” service, introduced to face fraud attacks related to credit cards and online systems, but also to lower the password management costs (Forrester Research quantifies them $ 200 per person / year).
Ubiquity, Global Messaging Platform active since 1999 in providing mobile services to large companies, has already developed its own OTP system.
The company also operates the OTP code to complement the secure authentication systems or for authorization of dispositive functions. The service can be arranged for the generation and management of the life cycle of the OTP code or for the simple forwarding to the end user.
Stepping back to the segmentation of the types of notifications, it is decreasing by 20% the number of messages related to marketing and trading activities, which rose from 11.2 million in 2015 (2% of the annual total) to 9.3 million in 2016 (1% of the annual total). The phenomenon is due to the fact that campaigns are carried out increasingly through multi-channel communications systems to reach the user on the move, using, for example, email or app. On the latter in particular, called “Push Notification“, Ubiquity has experienced noticeable growth in 2016 reaching € 1.8 million.
Push Notification is a particular type of notification available in major smartphone platforms and specifically: Apple iOS, Google Android and Windows Mobile.
This channel, when used properly, it reveals to be an extremely effective tool to empower the involvement and communication with its users. The Ubiquity solution also supports multi-channel Push Notification with a proprietary platform that seamlessly integrates with the Push Notification mechanisms’ leading provider, hiding the complexities and enriching the functionality notifications for its customers, such as managing multi- account and multi-device and fallback to SMS.
